New Release

Posted by on Friday, January 04, 2008 (EST)

DesignWorks Professional for Windows Version 5.0
DesignWorks Professional 5 is a significant advance in electronic design tools, bringing you some much-requested schematic editing features, like graphic drawing tools, along with PDF export, a powerful new scripting capability and many smaller enhancements.

New Features for Electronics Designers

Version 5 introduces a number of powerful new professional design features.

  • Graphic drawing tools give you the complete ability to use graphical elements like lines, circles and polygons to enhance your diagrams with title blocks, mechanical drawings, annotations, etc.
  • Scripting using JavaScript gives access to essentially all design data and program functions. This means that you can add your own commands, automate repetitive tasks, prompt for application-specific data, even add major new report formats, analyses, or simulations.
  • Display panels using HTML, in concert with the new JavaScripting features, let you add your own windows, prompt dialogs and display panels using all the power of HTML. These can even display arbitrary graphics and controls and link to web-based resources, while giving full access to design data and DesignWorks functions.
  • Other additions to graphical element handling, including the Background Layer Only command and sticky border items that move with a selected corner of the border
  • Improved symbol library handling, including the Auto-Open Libs command, an Auto-Open option on Open Lib box and the new ability to place circuit “scraps” in a library, that is, any collection of schematic elements, such as commonly-used groups of symbols, title blocks, mechanical drawings, etc.
  • Integrated PDF export lets you create portable documentation from your designs without access to any outside software.
  • circuit elements in libraries

New Features for OEM Users

DesignWorks Professional 5 takes customization capabilities to a new level with advanced scripting and HTML layout. Since essentially all design data and most program functions are available as script methods from within an HTML window, you can now add very complex and graphically advanced features to the program. For an example of how this can be used, see the EMTPWorks package sold by our OEM partner CEATI. EMTPWorks is actually DesignWorks Professional with extensive customization for 3-phase power applications.
